Thinking about walking into the woods today

It is overcast and chilly

"I don't like it when it's windy,"

you always said

One day I will climb to the top of the silo

look out over the fields and trees

and watch the birds fly below me

Are you a bird who has migrated far

to an arctic land

and will return on friendly winds

to this remembered home?

Soon I will hear your sweet joyful song

in the backyard

in the morning

as I wake and start my day
