Remember the great horned owl
silently watching us from the barn roof?
Early in our time together,
we shared its enormous presence
walking home from the woods
at dusk.
"A good omen," I said.
Sometimes they say,
"He would like what you've done here."
They are goodhearted
but
it's me
alone and bumbling on this ground
you called home
Rearrangements of furniture
Making of lists
The finding of treasure at the thrift store
Frames mirrors soft fabrics charms
the hoarding of talismans
silly unnecessary things
I hold tightly to them.
